Douglas County Courthouse

Historic Courthouse

The 30,000 square foot Douglas County Courthouse renovation project was an adaptation of the historically significant building to modern needs without destroying its charm and character. Existing terrazzo, tile, period lighting fixtures, ornate stained glass, and detailed woodwork were repaired and restored to original condition wherever possible. Items damaged beyond repair were replaced with new items of traditional design.

Accessible entrances and legal emergency fire exits were provided by the construction of two enclosed stair towers and an elevator within the building. Interior partitions were rearranged to provide the needed office areas. The outdated heating system was completely replaced with modern heating and air-conditioning throughout. Working within the framework of the new mechanical/electrical upgrades, new fire stairs and elevators and beautiful interior and exterior original architecture, the building continues to be a functional, flexible home for county government offices and a source of pride for the citizens of Douglas County.
