1912 Carnegie Library

Sitting prominently on the corner of Fourth and Walnut Streets in Pittsburg, Kansas, the beautiful 1912 Carnegie Library had become functionally obsolete, in need of maintenance, improved access, and additional space.

This project includes an addition that provides the needed area, access throughout the facility to persons with disabilities, allows the entire building to function again as a modern library, and carefully restores deteriorating components of the wonderful 1912 structure.

The addition is compatible with the size, scale and architectural features of the Historic Library. It is positioned in such a way as to minimize its impact on the site, and to allow the original Carnegie Library to remain the prominent influence.

Program space is reconfigured within the existing interior in order to preserve the charm and character of the historic interior features, while meeting "new" library functions and standards.
