Two-Phase ProjectDue to the Client’s requirement to remain “in-service”, this was a two-phase project. Phase one was a single-story 16,000 square foot laboratory addition (capable of a second floor) and mechanical penthouse. The addition is connected to an existing two-story laboratory building on one side and an existing warehouse building on another. The addition’s mechanical equipment was designed to service new and existing spaces. The project included specialized spaces for:
The Client required maximum flexibility for laboratories. The result was a flexible casework design allowing the relocation of casework sections. To accommodate this, the casework backs up to a core wall system which conceals all services behind access panels. Each laboratory includes a custom designed hazardous waste fume hood for safe disposal of hazardous waste into a double-contained waste collection system. The second phase included replacement of the existing building’s curtain wall system; and remodeling for laboratory support areas, conference rooms and offices. |
