Flexible Research Laboratory

Constructing an extremely flexible research laboratory over an existing cafeteria on the Marion Laboratories campus presented a challenge to the design team.

The planning called for plumbing and utility modules on 11'-0" centers to allow for small/ medium or large laboratory functions, and for easy modifications of complex systems as needs changed.

A service corridor provided access to the rear of each laboratory and created a conduit for services and for hook-ups of utilities on the planning module.

The lab areas are glass-fronted, facing office stations that each associate uses outside of the lab environment. The glass separation "opens" the labs to the office environment for visual release from the lab and helps improve safety as all lab areas are visible from the office area.
