Malott Hall Addition
University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas
School of Pharmacy and the Research Animal FacilityThe School of Pharmacy and the Research Animal Facility added 115,000 square feet to existing science building on a difficult site at the University of Kansas campus. Because the existing building floor-to- floor height of 11'-11" needed to be maintained, supply and exhaust air chases were located outside the usable floor area on the building perimeter - allowing for flexible laboratory module arrangements with very low (for a laboratory/technology building) floor- to-floor heights. Intake air is brought in at grade to avoid short-circuit potential with fume hood exhausts Connecting at all levels with original building, the Malott Addition also contains lecture rooms seating 104 and 76 persons respectively, and is connected by a two-level bridge with a Haworth Hall addition. The upper level is for pedestrian traffic, with the lower level accommodating research support services. |
