Historic Rehabilitation

Before an extensive rehabilitation, completed in 2001, Benedictine College’s Ferrell Hall had been vacant for 30 years. Today, it is an inviting gathering space and apartment-style residence hall that offers students modern conveniences within a building rich with historic and architectural character.

Ferrell Hall, located at the entrance to Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas, was built in 1893 as a monastery for Benedictine monks. In 1982, the building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of a campus historic district. The Kansas Preservation Alliance recognized the efforts of Treanor Architects and Benedictine College to save this significant building by giving the project an Award for Excellence in 2002. The building now contributes to the quality of life of current students and attracts new students to Benedictine College.
