The Treanor Architects / VCBO Architects team provided conceptual design services for a new housing complex for the universityʼs honors college program. The design addresses all of the desired programmatic features, creating an innovative and inspiring living-learning environment, reinforcing and supporting the values of social responsibility, inclusiveness and academic quality.
This Legacy Bridge Honors College design literally creates a bridge to the campus. A vertical and radial transparent glass connector serves as the gateway between the Fort Douglas TRAX station (created for the Olympics) and the campus. It passes through the honors college building - energizing public spaces, creating a vibrant see-and-be-seen environment.
The unifying bridge also connects and visually activates the two honors college buildings. The very public pedestrian pass-through is secured from the residence halls, and strikes a balance between a lively, interactive, and social atmosphere with a private place for individuals to study, contemplate and transform.
