Eisenhower Ridge Building 19
Leavenworth, KansasAdaptive Reuse & Rehabilitation
Building 19, a Romanesque Revival structure built in 1886, was rehabilitated and adapted to provide a new medical records center and office for the Department of Veterans Affairs Central Plains Consolidated Patient Accounts Center.
The building is located within a National Register of Historic Places district on the VA’s Dwight D. Eisenhower Medical Center campus. Building 19, now part of the Eisenhower Ridge Development, historically served as the general mess hall and kitchen for the Western Branch, National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers.
Treanor Architects provided historic preservation and architectural services for this adaptive reuse project. The design included the restoration of historic two-story front porch, restoration of the brick and stone exterior, repair of the historic wood windows, and replacement of the roof. The interior included the restoration of plaster walls and woodwork, historic doors and ornate metal columns. The design incorporated a new raised floor within the open office areas to support heavy IT requirements and included a new mezzanine floor within a previous addition. ADA modifications were incorporated and all new mechanical, electrical, plumbing and life safety systems were added.
In July 2011, the $14 million Central Plains CPAC rehabilitation was completed.
