New Facility Design

Treanor Architects developed a plan to replace a decaying, 80-year-old jail facility while not significantly increasing its staffing requirements. The facility is a 25,000-square foot jail and sheriff’s office that revolves around a control center. By keying on the 24/7 staffing of this area, we were able to utilize this as the visual sentry—not only for housing in the jail but also the public lobby, inmate visitation, booking, work release and the secure corridor where trustees travel for work in the kitchen and laundry.

The sheriff’s department houses staff offices, records room, evidence storage, conference rooms, maintenance area and a basement for use as the 911 dispatch area.

The new layout allows the sheriff to classify inmates and segregate them in appropriate modules to minimize altercations. The flexible housing plan also allows the county to hold female inmates. The jail holds 64 housing beds, 10 work release beds, booking area with vehicle sallyport, a cooking kitchen commercial style laundry, offices and support spaces for the jail and a large property storage room.
