New Courts Facility

Franklin County selected Treanor Architects to provide master planning and design services for four separate projects. The first project, completed in 2006, was a county administrative office center. The second project, the Franklin County Judicial Center, was designed to mirror the government center and to maintain a focus on the existing historic courthouse.

This new 40,000 sq ft courthouse provides space for two circuit courtrooms and three associate circuit courtrooms, and the associated court support spaces including judges chambers, court reporters, court administrators and the clerk of courts. It is a three-story building designed to provide separate circulation zones for the public, the judges and staff, and a third secure zone for inmates. The courthouse includes a secure link to the county detention center. Courtrooms meet handicap code requirements and accommodate changing technologies. As with the administrative office, the building will accommodate future expansion.

The renovation of Franklin County’s historic courthouse was completed in fall 2010. The final project, a jail expansion, is on hold pending funding.
