Shawnee County Sheriff Firing RangeTopeka, Kansas
In late 2010, Treanor Architects completed oversight of a new, 10-acre firing range operated by the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Department. The $1.4 million design-build project features automatic targetry that can be moved for practice at any distance.
The targets stand in front of crushed tires about 18 inches deep and 12 feet tall. Concrete and a specially de-signed drainage system will prevent lead leaching and contamination. A 30-foot berm stands behind the range, which will be open not only to the sheriff’s department, but also to officers from any other law enforce-ment or corrections agency.
