Facility ExpansionIn order to support market demand by 2011, Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc. (BIVI) commissioned Treanor Architects and CRB Consulting Engineers, Inc. to execute A/E services for a Feasibility Study for production expansion at their St. Joseph, MO facilities. The purpose of the Feasibility Report was to ensure that BIVI’s needs for both the overall facility and each of the individual systems are thoroughly defined and communicated to give clear direction for the preparation of the Preliminary Design. The scope of the Feasibility Study encompassed four separate but related projects: 1. Building B-South Dock Cooler Expansion and Electrical Upgrade 2. Building B Bio-Expansion 3. Building B-Renovations and EU Upgrades 4. Small Animal Test Facility Construction is complete for a 2,200 square foot expansion of the existing dock area at the south side of the second floor of Building B. This project incorporates additional 1,000 square feet of cooler space as well as additional dock storage space. The project was constructed in two basic phases to allow dock activities to remain in operation throughout the construction. The same design team continued with the detailed design of the Building B Bio-Expansion, also including expansion of the administration /office area. The 46,000 sq ft Bio-Expansion will allow BIVI to essentially double the production capacity of the facility. Included in the Bio-Expansion is an additional filling line (with space allotted for another future filling line), blending suites, antigen production and central services, as well as mechanical space to support the addition. This addition / renovation also optimizes work flows within the existing building and reduces previously identified bottlenecks in production. The 11,000 sq ft Administration Expansion will provide office space as well as conferencing, and support facilities for the increased building staffing. The project included multiple bid packages to achieve a fast track construction approach. Bidding was complete in January of 2010 for the final interior finish package and was on schedule and under budget. Construction is now under way with substantial completion of the first phase scheduled for the end of 2010. |
