Center for Environmentally Beneficial Catalysis

KU Center for Research

Improve economic well being and promote a better quality of life.

This project involved renovations to the University of Kansas Center for Research at the Life Sciences Research Laboratory Facility in Lawrence, KS to accommodate research done by Center for Environmentally Beneficial Catalysis (CEBC). CEBC is a multi-university NSF Engineering Research Center, headquartered at the University of Kansas, with core partners at the University of Iowa, Washington University in St. Louis, and Prairie View A&M University. The CEBC research group generates technologies that will transform the catalytic manufacture and use of chemicals into inherently safe and ecologically responsible processes, while retaining their economic viability.

The program is housed in a 19,000 s.f., 1980's era research building. As the type of research involves a much higher density of fume hoods, a complete renovation of the mechanical system was required. As funding was tied to a particular occupancy date, a multi-phased approach was implemented to accelerate the process. Laboratory renovations included casework reconfigurations, installation of new laboratory-grade fume hoods and emergency eyewashes, replacement of supply air systems, and high pressure research containment systems.
