Pittsburg Public Library

Pittsburg, Kansas

1912 Carnegie Library

Sitting prominently on the corner of Fourth and Walnut Streets in Pittsburg, Kansas, the beautiful 1912 Carnegie Library had become functionally obsolete, in need of maintenance, improved access, and additional space.

This project included an addition that provided the needed area, access to the facility for persons with disabilities, modern library functionality, and restored deteriorating components of the wonderful structure. The addition was designed to be compatible with the size, scale and architectural features of the historic library. It was positioned in such a way as to minimize its impact on the site, and to allow the original Carnegie Library to remain the prominent influence.

Program space was reconfigured within the existing interior to preserve the charm and character of the historic interior features, while meeting "new" library functions and standards.
